Monumental – approx. 88 cm – ex Grand Café-Restaurant 1e Klas, Amsterdam CS
Imposing, large bust of Jean‑Baptiste Colbert, Minister of Finance under King Louis XIV, in refined baroque style with a richly detailed curled wig and elegantly lace-trimmed chest piece. The bust is crafted in light, almost marble-white patinated plaster/composite, giving it a strong resemblance to classical marble sculpture in the interior setting.
This image originates from the famous Grand Café-restaurant 1e Klas in the monumental station building of Amsterdam Central, where it stood for years as an eye-catcher on the bar furniture; a photo of the image in situ can be seen.
