Beautiful and unique Japanese lantern, in copper and porcelain, original of the 19th century.
Buddhist Japanese lantern called “Torus” with chain. Included the chain and the porcelain candle base.
In good general condition, taking into account age and usage. It only has a small hole in the log paper.
Originally, Torus were used in Buddhist temples, where they were lined up to light the way. Lit lanterns were thus considered offerings to Buddha.
The traditional Torus paper lanterns symbolize joy, celebration, good fortune and longevity, since they have the role of protecting against evil.
