Description from the seller

First French illustrated edition by Jean Lebedeff (1884-1972), a French wood engraver and libertarian painter of Russian origin. Carefully crafted edition published in the 'original collection' by Mornay.

Pleasant collection of short stories, most concerning fishing, translated from Russian by Henri Mongault. It is worth noting that in his youth, Lebedeff was a sailor and later a captain. The illustration includes 32 initials and 54 wood engravings in two tones, of which 4 are out-of-text.

Beautiful half-brown leather binding with bands, rounded spine decorated with a cold-stamped marine anchor in the center, topped with a title piece. Gilt head. Covers and spine preserved.

Condition: very good condition, slight defect (spine worn). Impeccable interior.

Limited edition. This is one of the 902 copies numbered on Rives vellum paper (N 680).
