Beautiful deluxe edition released in only 200 numbered copies.
Collation: Tome I: Planches. xv, 826 plates, (8) ; Tome II: Texts. (4), 315 pp.
Condition: Deluxe edition; all gray leather, blind-stamped orchid on the front cover, all edges gilt, ribbon markers, marbled endpapers, marbled slipcase with leather edges, velvet-lined box interior, sides of the boards with gilt-stamped decoration. The original edition consisted of 2,750 copies. This leather-bound deluxe edition consists of only 200 numbered copies, of which this copy is number 55. In near-perfect condition.
● Célestin Alfrète (Alfred) Cogniaux (Robechies, 7 April 1841 – Genappe, 15 April 1916) was a Belgian botanist, specialized in the study of orchids. He was also curator of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium for a while. His Dictionnaire Iconographique des Orchidées , with reproductions of watercolours by Alphonse Goossens, was originally published in installments from 1896 to 1907.
