Description from the seller

Minamata: Life-Sacred and Profane

Eugene Smith
Soshikisha/1973/Japanese/300*410*8

Minamata: Life-Sacred and Profane” is a collection of works by William Eugene Smith, a leading postwar photojournalist. Eugene Smith is one of the leading photographers who expressed the new medium of photojournalism through LIFE. However, his style of journalism, which focused on human dignity and truth based on subjectivity, rather than the journalism of Bresson and others, which was based on objective facts and captured decisive moments, was not similar to the same type of journalism. His methods, such as extreme cropping and multiple burning, were new and different from conventional news photography, and a series of them can be seen in his masterpiece “Minamata. This book is a collection of 12 main Minamata prints (printed in photogravure) in an unbound format.
