Description from the seller
Set of 4 silver-plated trays – Cornet – Belgium – mid-20th century
Cohesive set of four rectangular/square serving trays with striking crenellated (notched) raised rims—a clean, architectural look that works well in both vintage and contemporary interiors.
Maker: Cornet (marked CORNET with quality code 48)
Origin: Belgium (Brussels), mid-20th century
Material: Silver-plated metal (hotel/household quality)
Measurements:
2 × square trays: H 2.5 cm × 23 × 23 cm
1 × small rectangular tray: H 2 cm × 20.5 × 17 cm ( a tear on the corner and is not marked)
1 × large serving tray: H 3.5 cm × 51 × 30.5 cm
Total weight (set): approx. 3.550 kg
Hallmarks & plating:
Stamped CORNET 48. The number “48” is a plating-quality code used by Belgian/French makers for silver-plate, indicating a thicker, durable service layer intended for intensive household or hotel use (comparable to “hotel silver” standards). Base is typically brass or nickel silver for strength.
Design details:
Continuous raised walls with rounded corners
Crisp, evenly spaced crenellations along the rim
Flat, practical serving surfaces
Condition:
Good vintage condition with surface scratches from use and light polishing marks; no significant dents, bends or repairs. Edges and corners true. Please study the photos; they form part of the description.
About the maker (Cornet):
Orfèvrerie Cornet (Brussels) was an active Belgian silversmithing and plating workshop producing robust, well-finished hollow-ware and service pieces in the 20th century. Marks appear as CORNET followed by a plating code (e.g., 48). Their output is known for practical, modern lines and reliable heavy plating suitable for hospitality.
