2021 Quinta da Boavista, Vinha do Oratório Old Vines - Douro DOC - 1 Bottle (0.75L)

2021 Quinta da Boavista Vinha do Oratório Old Vines Red 1 x 0.75L 1 Bottle Douro Region WINEMAKER: Jean-Claude Berrouet & Ricardo Macedo. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 93 Points, Revista Adega (2014 Vintage) 18.5 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas (2014 Vintage) 95 Points, Robert Parker (2019 Vintage) 94 Points, Cellar Selection, Wine Enthusiast (2020 Vintage) 93 Points, VertdeVin (2018 Vintage) 18 Points, Revista de Vinhos (2013 Vintage) 17 Points, Jancis Robinson (2017 Vintage) 17 Points, Vinum Magazine (2020 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Old Vines (90+ years old). VINIFICATION At Quinta da Boavista, to guarantee the preservation of the grape variety's characteristics and total control of the production process, we use manual harvesting and manual selection of bunches, followed by de-stemming and gentle crushing of the berries. Traditional granite presses with foot treading were used as fermentation tanks, and the wine subsequently aged in French oak barrels for at least 18 months. All wines are sealed with natural cork. Not being filtered or stabilized by cold, they can give rise to a precipitate with age. TASTING NOTES Deep ruby color. On the nose, the notes of forest fruit dominate, with splashes of bergamot and soft menthol that give it an intoxicating freshness. The mouth is in agreement in everything: silky tannins wander through the rich presence of fruit and the spicy touches of the barrel, which rejoice in impeccable acidity. A wine of multiple complexities, which unfolds into heteronymous assortments throughout the tasting. SERVING Perfect with red meat, game or cheese dishes. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. HISTORY Located near Pinhão, on the right bank of the Douro river, Quinta da Boavista has an extraordinary view over the river. It is one of the most iconic estates in the demarcated region, known not only for its historical connection with the Baron of Forrester, but also for its 36 hectares of high-quality vines. It is also the birthplace of a series of impressive indigenous grape varieties and several old vine parcels, twisted by the time, that present low yields but exceptional quality grapes that allow the production of the best Port and still wines. In the old vines, those grape variety were commonly planted together in order to produce natural batches with high complexity and richness. Currently, they are separately planted with the 5 most currently used being Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão Quinta da Boavista’s 36 ha of vineyards are spread over a dazzling geometric setting of terraces built by hand and supported by small schist walls, which is typical of the region. Some of the terraces are almost eight meters high, and this, along with the extreme climate and dramatic steep slopes, provides a unique terroir. The estate is well preserved, kept rigorously as a fine example of the Douro’s typical beauty. PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
