Description from the seller
French Colonial Atlas - Colonies, Protectorates, and Mandate Countries, by Commander Pollacchi
This large-format atlas (34 x 41 cm) offers a synthetic overview of the French colonial empire at its peak. The work includes maps, photographs, geographical notices, and statistical tables designed to present the extent and diversity of territories administered by France across several continents. Each region is described according to its physical characteristics, inhabitants, resources, communication routes, and political organization. The atlas aims both to educate and to promote colonial action by emphasizing the economic, strategic, and cultural roles attributed to these possessions. Through its didactic approach and careful iconography, it now serves as a revealing document of the geopolitical and ideological representations of the interwar period.
Presented countries: Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, AOF, AEF, Togo, Cameroon, Madagascar, Réunion, Somalia), India, Indochina, the Levant States, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, New Caledonia, the New Hebrides, the French Establishments in Oceania.
1931, 34 x 41 cm, 320 pages. Half-garnet leather binding with corners, smooth spine with gilded title. Binding rubbed, corners bumped, various water stains on the front cover. Rear endpaper partially detached. Interior clean, with occasional foxing.
