Biography
Mauro Falcioni was born in Matelica in 1978. Always passionate about visual arts and illustration, he trained in web graphics without ever abandoning his true vocation: freehand drawing. His stylistic registers range from fantasy to more figurative representations, ultimately finding in the surrealist approach the most effective solutions to express his view of the world. It is under this sign that his style matured over the years, translating pencil marks from paper to canvas and giving his works a recognizable grammar, composed of recurring figures and scenarios imbued with meaning. His poetic: dreams and lived moments take shape through memory as well as through the creative act, which, via the language used, highlights a difference between the work and the subject. This gap becomes the constitutive matter of the subject itself. The artist depicts this insurmountable yet essential discrepancy by employing references from Jungian psychoanalysis. The cat, a guide inseparably linked to man as the kite is to the child—images of different facets of the same self—refers to the concept of the Shadow, the darkest part of ourselves that we are compelled to tame as we approach reality. Every other relationship is present either as lack or as a hint aimed at formalizing it: by delving into the self, the artist forces us to confront solitude-melancholy as an existential condition of man, his peculiarity of 'falling outside the world'.
