Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Rare 19th‑century vellum indenture document from the United Kingdom, dated 1830, written in English with dense cursive handwriting, with two red wax seals and signatures, measuring 56.3 × 76.3 cm and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This indenture, dated 1830, is a fine example of a nineteenth-century English legal deed. Written on vellum in dense cursive script, it begins with the large, decorative heading “This Indenture,” a typical feature of such contracts. The document is carefully ruled and folded, demonstrating the formal presentation expected in property and contractual agreements of the time.
At the lower edge, two bright red wax seals remain, accompanied by handwritten signatures, which authenticate the agreement and legally bind the parties involved. These seals, impressed in wax and placed beside the names, served as both legal and symbolic confirmation of consent. Indentures like this often recorded the transfer of land, leases, or long-term obligations, reflecting the highly codified nature of English legal practice in the early nineteenth century. Today, the document stands not only as a binding legal instrument of its time but also as a historical artifact of legal and social history.
