HISTORY of the Model: The Rolex ref. 4220 refers to an entry-level, manual-winding Oyster model that was produced in the 1940s and 1950s under various names, including Oyster Royalite, Oyster Royal, and Speedking, with the 4220 case becoming a popular reference for these models. These smaller, 30mm (and sometimes 29mm) stainless steel watches were affordable alternatives to the more complex Oyster Perpetual models and were also marketed for military use, particularly to Canadian soldiers during WWII.
