Two ceramic Bierstiefel beer mugs from West Germany, dating to 1990–2000, with multicolour decoration.
Description from the seller
Two beer mugs from West Germany, notable for their decorative and distinctive shape.
Important and unusual beer mug shaped like a boot, rich in aesthetic and decorative details.
The idea of the boot-shaped beer mug (Bierstiefel) is linked to German military and student traditions.
Military legend - It is said that a German general promised his soldiers that, in case of victory, he would drink a beer from his boot.
To avoid actually drinking from a dirty boot, a glassmaker created a 'Bierstiefel' made of glass/ceramic: this is how the Bierstiefel was born.
The story is probably more myth than reality, but it has been very successful.
Symbol of camaraderie among soldiers and students - Since the late 19th century, the boot-shaped glass has become popular in barracks and later in student associations (Burschenschaften) as an object for collective toasts and alcohol games: drinking 'to the tip' of the boot without spilling the foam is a test of skill.
Tradition of breweries and souvenirs - In the twentieth century, the Bierstiefel entered the breweries of the German and Austrian area as a special mug for festivals, and later as a tourist souvenir.
The glazed ceramic versions, often richly decorated like our piece, evoke the tradition of old German Krüge (decorated stoneware mugs).
In summary, the boot has become a humorous and 'heroic' image associated with beer: a symbol of victory, courage, and especially camaraderie among drinking companions.
Beautiful to see all the embossed and hand-painted decorations, also lovely are the writings on the sides of the boot.
Refresh the hunter's blood.
Treat others well: which is also good for other people.
(see photo), Size Height 25 cm. Depth 20 cm. Width 10 cm. Weight 1060 g.
A valuable, important piece, not common, suitable for a collection but also aesthetically beautiful as a unique object.
Always kept on display as a collector's item, never used or used very little.
Finely crafted and highly decorative, this beer mug by DGBM from the late 20th century is titled 'Hunting in the Forest.' It is recognizable by its fox-shaped handle and features engraved trees, boars, and deer on the mug.
Size: Height 13 cm. Depth 11 cm. Width 7 cm. Weight 450 g.
Quickly, very well packaged with styrofoam and/or bubble wrap, and shipped with tracking and insurance with the best shipping agencies.
