Decorative bell (3) - Belgium - A table bell, Malines

Set of Three Flemish Bronze Cloister Bells Flanders, 16th century, two of later date Heights: approx. 11 cm and 12.5 cm Provenance: Private Belgian collection A rare ensemble of three cast bronze cloister bells, each decorated in high relief with Latin inscriptions, heraldic scrollwork and symbolic figures. One bell still includes its historic iron clapper. These compact bells were intended for use within a monastic or ecclesiastical context, handled by clergy for liturgical signals, processions or devotional rituals inside the cloister. The detailed inscriptions and richly modelled ornament reflect the fine craftmanship of 16th-century Flemish bronze founders. All three bells present an attractive historic patina, ranging from deep warm brown to aged green, giving them an exceptional and authentic presence. A seldom-seen matching group preserved together. Please note that we currently do not ship orders to the United States.
