Description from the seller
Historical Poster – Albert Brenet for the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique
1950s – Original color lithograph by Beuchet & Vanden Brugge, Paris – 65 x 50 cm
This 1950 poster depicts eight flagship cargo ships of the CGT: Washington (10,195 tons), Carbet (7,850 tons), Fort Carillon (2,900 tons), Sahara (2,355 tons), Pérou (8,655 tons), Mogador (1,589 tons), La Hogue (5,652 tons), and Cavalier de la Mer (9,405 tons).
Circular layout with exotic motifs (fruits, colonial figures), promoting the trade routes to Africa, America, and the colonies.
Signed by Albert Brenet (1903-2005), trained at the Beaux-Arts, it reflects the 'Trente Glorieuses': the post-1945 reconstruction of the CGT fleet (founded in 1861), through Liberty ships and new constructions for export (raw materials, manufactured goods). Art Deco style: contrasting colors for clarity of information. High-quality offset printing (8-10 layers, 180-220 g/m² paper), in very good condition, compact format 65 x 50 cm suitable for collections.
Testament to French naval and colonial history, valued by collectors.
Images are part of the description. Insured delivery and via relay point.
