Japanese Samurai Armor Do & Sode - Japan - Edo Period (1603-1868)

Item Description: Edo Period Japanese Armor Components: Do (Cuirass) and Sode (Shoulder Guards) This is an authentic set of Japanese armor components from the Edo period (1603-1868), consisting of a do (chest armor/cuirass) and a pair of sode (shoulder guards). These pieces represent an important part of samurai military equipment and Japanese martial heritage. The do (chest armor) features traditional construction with protective plates and fabric covering, designed to protect the torso of a samurai warrior. The cuirass shows the characteristic shape and structure of Edo period armor design, with its distinctive profile that allowed for mobility while providing essential protection in battle. The accompanying sode (shoulder guards) were crucial defensive elements that protected the shoulders and upper arms of the samurai. These large, rectangular protective plates were suspended from the shoulders and provided coverage against strikes from swords and arrows. The sode typically consisted of multiple horizontal plates (kozane or lamellae) laced together with cord, representing the sophisticated construction techniques of Japanese armorers. This set bears the marks of age and historical use, with visible wear, scratches, stains, and some damage consistent with authentic period pieces. These characteristics serve as testament to the armor's genuine historical nature and its journey through centuries of Japanese history. Such armor components are increasingly rare in the market and represent an important opportunity for collectors of Japanese arms and armor, martial arts practitioners, or museums seeking authentic examples of samurai military equipment. The pieces offer insight into the craftsmanship and martial traditions of feudal Japan. Please note: The wooden display stand shown in photographs is not included with this lot. Size Do (Cuirass): Circumference: 103 cm Height: 46 cm Sode (Shoulder Guards): Width: 19 cm Length: 21 cm Condition This armor set shows considerable signs of age and use, including surface scratches, stains, dirt accumulation, and some tears in the fabric components, all consistent with authentic Edo period pieces that have survived for centuries. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
