Chair - Savonarola - Walnut

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists in walnut wood.

Made in Italy in the mid-20th century, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, foldable like a book and made up of curved, serpentine elements crossed in an X shape. The backrest depicts the lily, a Florentine symbol, while the armrests end with the effigy of lions.

The term 'Savonarola' derives from the name of Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), to whom the chair of this type still attributed would date back, and which is preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.
