Description from the seller
LUCRÈCE
On the nature of things.
Paris, at Bleuet's, 1768.
1 volume (out of 2) in-12 (16.5 x 9.5 cm), mottled calf (period binding), smooth decorated spine, title piece in morocco, triple fillet framing the covers, marbled edges, handwritten inscription on the upper endpaper, 411-[5] pages (complete volume). Volume II is incomplete, with worn corners and caps, a small loss at the spine, a split at the upper hinge, a starting tear at the lower hinge at the tail (3.5 cm), small angular stains from page 330 onward, scattered foxing. Overall, the condition is acceptable.
Annotated French translation provided by La Grange (1738-1775), tutor to Baron d'Holbach, printed alongside the Latin text in the margin. This beautiful edition is illustrated with a frontispiece and two splendid off-text engravings, designed by Gravelot and engraved by Binet.
As with all copies, the second leaf of volume 1, which should have contained the printed title, was replaced by the frontispiece title.
Good specimen.
