ITEM: COMPLETE SAMURAI ARMOR (Edo period) This impressive complete samurai armor from the Edo period is an outstanding example of traditional craftsmanship, combining strong martial presence with refined aesthetics and a remarkable state of preservation. It comes with its original yoroi-bitsu storage box, decorated with a gold-painted family crest, as well as its outer leather protective cover, a rare surviving accessory used during transport and military campaigns. KABUTO – Suji-bachi helmet with stylized antler wakidate The helmet is a suji-bachi, made of multiple riveted plates lacquered in dark brown. The shape of the rivets and the curvature of the plates indicate skilled workmanship. The kabuto is topped with a stylized kuwagata maedate (antler-shaped crest). These are not meant to resemble natural antlers but rather follow the abstract, symbolic style favored in Edo-period armor design. The fukigaeshi display floral motifs and patinated lacquer, with orange cords and elegant wear consistent with genuine Edo-age materials. MENPŌ – Face mask with lacquered yodare-kake The menpō is a half-face mask lacquered in deep black. The attached yodare-kake of horizontal lacquered plates remains intact and matches the cuirass perfectly.
