Will Rebel Yell make you scream, “More, more, more?” Granted, the name doesn’t instill the confidence of high quality. Like Fighting Cock perhaps, it suggests a rough and tumble Old West style. I poured a glass and prepared to get burned in more ways than one. I was surprised to find that Rebel Yell is much more innocent than its phonetic name suggests. For one thing, it’s a Bourbon grain, which always lends itself to more smoothness. While the age isn’t revealed, the whiskey feels a bit youthful, and there’s a certain intensity and boldness that comes from the raw grain character. But it’s not completely rough, just a little spicy.
