A visual tour of Japan, with 100 titled tissue protected colour plates
A fascinating travel classic book in the original cloth bindings. The book is wonderfully illustrated with 100 full page colour plates, captioned on the tissue guards by Mortimer Menpes (Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1855 – 1938), was an Australian-born British painter, author, printmaker and illustrator). With text by Dorothy Menpes.
The striking illustrations by Mortimer Menpes include street scenes, portraits of workers & children, gardens and landscapes accompanied by daughter Dorothy Menpes' impressions of Japan.
Published by Adam and Charles Black, London (1904). Publisher’s original blue boards, blind-tooled ruling and gilt title and decorations on upper board, same patterns to spine with title. Top edges gilt.

Condition
External covers are slightly faded and marked, and with light wear to corners, and edges, and minor rubbings to head and foot of spine. Internally the book is in very good condition. First blank page is removed. No names or inscriptions. Pages are clean, marks to only one or couple pages. The text and plates are clean and bright (Please see pictures).
