Description from the seller
A set of 3 geometric figures called Platonic Solids
Ethereal representations, both scientific and mystical, Plato's solids played an important role in Plato's philosophy. In the Timaeus (-358 BC), Plato associated each of the four elements, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire, with a representative solid.
1. Dodecahedron - 12 faces - Wood - Brown color - 250x250x250 mm
2. Icosahedron - 18 faces - Wood - Brown color - 250x250x250 mm
3. Icosahedron - 24 faces - Wood - Brown color - 250x250x250 mm
Platonic figures are today the supreme expression of the majesty of geometry. The mysterious powers of mathematics and science, and their application to art, were a favorite subject of the Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519). His delicately shaded illustrations of polyhedra appear in Luca Pacioli's 1509 book, Divina Proportione. These shapes were thought to be linked to the elements: the cube to earth, the tetrahedron to fire, the octahedron to air, the icosahedron to water, and the dodecahedron to the celestial ether. Enjoy the classical beauty and pleasing proportions of these intriguing, timeless forms.
