Oil painting titled Borgo by Guido Borelli (XX) from the 1970s, a realist impressionist street scene of an Italian town, signed, original edition, 50 x 70 cm canvas (70 x 90 cm including the frame) in good condition and sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Beautiful painting by Guido Borelli depicting a village street scene in Italy, characterized by a nostalgic and popular atmosphere. The setting is dominated by ancient buildings with weathered facades, peeling plaster, and brick-red wooden shutters, some of which are open with clothes hung out to dry.
In the foreground, the dirt or cobblestone street features some elements of daily life.
A female figure, probably an elderly woman, dressed in traditional clothes with a white veil, is bent over or working near wicker baskets, while a man dressed in dark clothing walks away along the street. Two or three hens, on the other hand, are scratching the ground.
The light suggests a serene day, with intense shadows that add depth and contrast.
The brushstrokes appear thick and textured, typical of oil painting, with an evident texture on the support.
The artwork belongs to the realist impressionist or post-impressionist genre. The artist does not seek photographic realism but an impression of life and light.
The dominant tones are earthy (ochre, brown, warm gray) for the buildings and the ground, contrasted by the muted red of the shutters and the patches of blue and white from the hanging laundry.
The composition is balanced, with the buildings guiding the eye towards the background and the human figures anchoring the foreground. The diagonal line of the street creates depth.
The artwork, overall, is in good condition and is protected by glass.
