Porcelain plate from the Wanli period (1573–1619) of the Ming Dynasty, blue-and-white decorated with deer in a woodland landscape; measures 20.6 cm in diameter and 3 cm high, origin China, from a private collection, in good condition with minor signs of age.

Chinese porcelain plate with a contoured edge from the Wanli Period (1573-1619), 16th century, Ming dynasty.
The plate is decorated in underglaze blue with deer in a forest landscape and a border featuring a motif of ducks or geese in a river landscape. The exterior of the border is decorated with a delicate scene of prunus branches and birds.
Symbolism
Herten – Lu stands for a long life and is also the symbol of honor and success in studies.
Prunus – a symbol of winter, corresponding to the month of January. One of the 'Three Friends of Winter.' An emblem of beauty, purity, and longevity, because it is believed that Laozi was born beneath its branches.
