Author biography
Tomi Ungerer, born in 1931, comes from an Alsatian watchmaker family. In the mid-1950s, he moved to New York, where his unstoppable rise as a draftsman, painter, children's book author, and advertising graphic designer began. After several years on a farm in Nova Scotia (Canada), he now lives with his family in Ireland and Strasbourg. In 2004, Tomi Ungerer received an honorary doctorate from the University of Karlsruhe (TH) for his special contributions to the educational development of children's book culture. In 2008, he was awarded the Prix de l'Académie de Berlin for his cultural contribution to German-French understanding.
EROTOSCOPE
The new book is a retrospective of his erotic work, featuring 200 images covering all aspects of his erotic art and nearly 200 previously unpublished drawings. From the very original 'The Joy of Frogs' to his erotic flower series (rare flowers with names like Spermafloris linguifolium and Perivagina superba), Tomi Ungerer's work stimulates the imagination to the maximum and is characterized by a very beautiful, original style.
