A cherrywood sideboard with a marble top and leaded glass, in Art Nouveau style (Viennese Secession), dating to 1910–1920, by J. & J. Kohn, Austria, with dimensions 227 cm high, 125 cm wide, 57 cm deep.
Description from the seller
This impressive solid cherry wood piece dating back to the early 1900s features a contemporary label from the historic Austro-Hungarian company Jacob & Josef Kohn.
Founded in 1849, J. & J. Kohn was a pioneer in the production of bentwood furniture and, at the beginning of the 20th century, collaborated intensively with leading designers of the Wiener Werkstätte such as Hoffmann, Gustav Siegel, and Otto Wagner, transforming industrially produced furniture into fine examples of designer furniture.
The warm color of cherry wood contrasts with the elegant marble top. The doors are decorated with finely crafted stained glass, attributed to the historic Moser glassworks.
Below, there is a convenient additional wooden shelf, probably designed as a desk. All the internal compartments of the drawers are original, and the furniture is supplied with the original keys for the upper and lower doors.
The sideboard is in excellent condition, with two missing elements that are easily restorable: one of the wooden sides framing the marble top (right side); a central shelf and the middle internal shelf at the bottom (lost during moves).
Measures
Height: 227 cm
Width: 125 cm
Depth: 57 cm
Purchased at the Finarte Auction House in the historic headquarters of Via Manzoni in Milan, the current owner does not possess the original identification documents, which were lost over time.
This refined piece of furniture can become a distinctive element in any space where it is placed. Perfect for those looking to invest in a piece of design history.
Available for viewing and pickup in Treviolo (BG).
