A Kangxi-period Chinese wucai porcelain jar with a later silver lid, in white glaze, standing about 9 cm high and 7.8 cm in diameter, weighing 340 g, with provenance from a gallery owner/dealer and in fair used condition with minor parts possibly missing.
Description from the seller
Chinese Wucai porcelain lid pot (Kandijpot)
17th century – Transition period / Kangxi
A beautiful and authentic Chinese lid pot, also known as a jarlet, executed in the vibrant wucai palette ('five colors'). The piece is likely from the late Ming or early Qing dynasty (Transition period / Kangxi, 17th century), a period renowned for its expressive and refined porcelain art.
The decoration is rich and detailed, with under-glaze cobalt blue and over-glaze enamel in bright red, green, purple, and yellow. It features elegant floral motifs, probably peonies—a traditional Chinese symbol of wealth and honor. Such pots were originally used for storing tea leaves or spices, such as ginger.
The pot is equipped with a later-added silver lid, which provides an attractive and unique material combination.
Condition
The object shows signs of aging and flaws that are typical for porcelain of this age.
Multiple chips
A hairline in the lid
Fine fritting along edges.
General: used condition, with normal signs of aging.
Please note: The green ginger jar in one of the photos is solely for scale and is not part of this sale.
Review all photos carefully; they form an integral part of the condition description.
Dimensions (approximate – please measure yourself)
Height: approx. 9 cm
Diameter: approximately 7.8 cm
A beautiful and decorative collectible for enthusiasts of Asian ceramics and antique porcelain.
