New edition of Paul Claudel's poem, adorned with 30 color illustrations by Harada Rihakou (1890-1954). A fine copy of these 26 bilingual poems in French and English, inspired by Claudel's long stay in Japan.
Limited to 4,075 copies, this one numbered 2,673. Not printed on justified paper in this edition, but printed on beautiful paper nonetheless.
Charming publication related to Japanese culture, with a red string and covers illustrated with a black and gold design.
In good condition. Missing paper on the back and the red thread of the binding detached at the head. Small tear at the lower corner of the cover. Interior impeccable.
Harada Rihakou was a Japanese painter, illustrator, and poet, born on August 24, 1890, in Tokyo under the name Harada Hikotarô, and died on October 19, 1954, in Niedernai (Bas-Rhin). He abandoned law studies and left Japan to pursue a career as a painter in France in 1931. He was notably associated with painter Kishida Ryûsei (1891-1929), novelist Saneatsu Mushanokōji (1885-1976), Franco-Japanese writer Kikou Yamata (1897-1975), and ambassador and man of letters Paul Claudel. His works are diverse, ranging from black-and-white illustrations to silk painting.
