Description from the seller
The discus thrower of the Diskobolos was a Greek bronze statuette. The lost original was created around 450 BC by the Athenian sculptor and bronze caster Myron of Eleutherae. The bronze statue was approximately 1.55 meters tall and was likely located in Delphi or Olympia.
The images of the discus thrower to be viewed today are Roman marble copies. There is a copy in the British Museum, and two are located in the Museo Nazionale Romano.
The term Diskobolos was already used in the 17th and 18th centuries for a statue holding a discus, the Diskophoros or discus-bearer. This image was identified by the Italian archaeologist Ennio Quirino Visconti and named after the Diskobolos of the Greek sculptor Naukydes of Argos.
This image is a beautiful heavy bronze replica of the world-famous Michelangelo artwork. You will be delighted by the beautiful details.
