Thirty-Eight Plates with Explanation intended to illustrate Linnaeus's System of Vegetables. London, White, 1799. The first work is a comprehensive guide to the native plants of Great Britain, containing detailed descriptions and divided into several sections, including trees, shrubs, herbs, and grasses. Each species is illustrated with hand-drawn images with captions in Latin reporting its scientific name and aesthetic features. The second work illustrates and clarifies Linnaeus's scientific system and contains thirty-eight copperplate engravings, each accompanied by a page of description. Two works bound together. Half-leather binding from the period. Title in gold on the spine. Spine with raised bands and blind tooling. Portrait of the author and garden view on the frontispiece of the first work. Illustrated with 169 beautiful plates of typical British plants and fungi in the first work and 38 engraved copperplates in the second.
