Four works by the Brabant artist Jan van Gemert (1921-1991) on canvas, paper and hardboard. In his mainly expressionist work, Jan van Gemert was related to Edgar Tijtgat, Herman Kruyder, Willem Hofhuizen and Hendrik Wiegersma, among others. 

Untitled (landscape) - 1949, 46 x 60 cm, oil on canvas. Signed and dated, original frame of the artist. This is an early painting in post-impressionist style which is clearly indebted to the Brabant work of Vincent van Gogh.

Zieke (Rick Boesewinkel op ziekbed) - 1956, 60 x 80 cm, oil on hardboard. Signed and dated, new frame. This work is from the Royal Collection and was bought at the time in light of the so-called ‘contraprestatie’ (artist subsidy). Textile artist Rick Boesewinkel (1931-1993) had a long relationship with Jan van Gemert. Signed multiple times at the back in paint and pencil.

Moeder en kind (mother and child) - ca. 1962, 56 x 40 cm, oil on paper. Signed, behind glass, original frame of the artist with mat. Beautiful work in the full expressionist style of Van Gemert.

Untitled (landscape) - 1976, 42 x 66 cm, glue paint on paper. Signed and dated, behind glass, original frame of the artist with mat. Bought by the first owner on an exhibition of the artist in the provincial house in Den Bosch.
