Ernst Haeckel, biologist, naturalist, philosopher and artist, contributed with his splendid drawings to show the mysterious and unknown world of microscopic organisms before the invention of photography. A supporter of Darwinism, he created the artistic forms of nature in 1899 (Kunstformen der Natur). Subsequent editions in Italian are not known.
It contains 50 b/w and coloured lithographs with decorations of marine fauna. Loose sheets in a half leather folder, the canvas closing tie is worn, small water stains to a few lithographs.
