Wrapped Trees: Fondation Beyeler and Berower Park, Riehen, Basel, Switzerland: 1997-1998

In Autumn 1998, Christo and Jeanne-Claude transformed 162 trees around Fondation Beyeler into a sculptural masterwork, wrapping them in 55,000 square meters of polyester fabric. It was the artists’ pièce de résistance in a long history of wrapping trees, and created an ever-changing panorama of form, texture, and colour. This book traces the expansive history of Wrapped Trees as well as the project’s realization story, from start to finish. It includes preparatory drawings, collages, and plans from Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s archive, as well as numerous photographs of the final Wrapped Trees.
