Vintage Japanese Bamboo Basket with Lid – Handwoven Ajiro Weave – Wabi-Sabi Folk Craft

This elegant vintage Japanese bamboo basket with lid is a fine example of traditional handwoven bamboo craftsmanship.

The basket is carefully constructed using ajiro weave, a classic diagonal bamboo weaving technique widely admired for both its strength and refined visual rhythm. The natural bamboo has developed a warm amber patina over time, giving the piece a beautiful aged character highly appreciated by collectors of Japanese folk crafts.

The basket is fitted with a removable woven lid and an arched bamboo handle, making it both functional and visually balanced. The base structure is reinforced with traditional cross bamboo supports, a feature commonly found in practical Japanese utility baskets designed for durability and everyday use.

Such baskets were historically used for carrying food, household items, or picnic supplies, and today they are valued as decorative objects or examples of Japanese traditional craftsmanship.

The harmonious proportions, rich natural color, and intricate weaving make this basket an attractive piece for collectors, interior decoration, or lovers of Japanese folk art.
