Set of Four Historical Reverse Glass Paintings in Zinc Frames – Handcrafted Series after 16th Century Iconography Description: This lot consists of a coherent set of four historical reverse glass artworks, executed using the reverse glass print technique (Hinterglasbild) and hand-coloured, each mounted in its original zinc (tin) frame with hanging chains. All four pieces share the same format (approx. 25 × 20 cm) and form a thematically unified historical cycle, based on 16th century European engravings. Themes represented: State power and authority – a river scene with a boat, official coats of arms and a fortified town (Central European / Habsburg context). Faith and chivalry – Saint George slaying the dragon, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. Science and the Reformation – an interior study scene dated 1524, referring to the intellectual climate of the Reformation period. War and mercenaries – two Landsknechts accompanied by a battle scene, illustrating 16th century warfare. Three of the four artworks bear original German labels reading “Original Handarbeit”, confirming handcrafted production. The fourth piece does not retain its label but is identical in technique, size, style and framing, clearly belonging to the same original series. Based on stylistic, technical and material characteristics, the set dates to the first half of the 20th century (circa 1930–1950) and was most likely produced in Germany or Austria, after early modern graphic sources. Condition: Original glass with visible age-related patina and minor surface wear. Authentic zinc frames, structurally sound, with hanging chains. Overall consistent and decorative appearance. Offered strictly as one lot (4 pieces).
