¶ Viktor Kolář (1941) is a Czech Photographer. He is considered one of the most important Exponents of Czech Documentary Photography. After the invasion of Czechoslovakia (October 1968) he emigrated to Canada, where he worked in the Metal-industry. He later turned to Photography and documented (1968-1973) Shopping Malls in Montreal, Vancouver andToronto. In 1973 he Returned to Czechoslovakia. Distrusted by the State, he was eventually Unable to work as a Photographer. Instead, during that period of “Normalization” he worked in the Steel-factory, while secretly Documenting the Ostrava region with his camera. In 1985, Kolář again worked as a Photographer and won the Mother Jones International Photography Award.
