His first solo exhibition took place in 1983 at Heian Gallery in Kyoto. Fukami lived in Nagasaki from 1988 and later moved to Fukuoka in 1999. He held numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Japan during his career, leaving a distinctive mark in contemporary Japanese printmaking.
