.A well preserved dagger with kozuka and leather wrapped tsuka has arrived. The sword is in very good condition with no chips, flaws or dents, but there are some light rust spots. There is also some light rust on the mine. Gomabashi and Sanskrit characters are engraved on both sides of the sashiomote and sashiura, the Sanskrit characters represent Senju Kannon (thousand-armed Goddess of Mercy) and Fudo Myo-o(Acala). The jigane of itame hada is decorated with the hamon of niedeki gunome midare. On the sashiura side of the nakago, the inscription "I made this in Edo, Bushu district, in the second month of the second year of the Bunkyu period" suggests that this piece was made in February 1862. The koshirae is tanto style, with a tsuba and a black leather tsukaito in the style of a tsumami-maki. All fittings is of the period, including the kozuka. The Ishime-style scabbard lacquer is decorated with Ichimoji characters. This powerful and magnificent Tanto was made at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate, one of the most turbulent periods in Japanese history, and is in perfect condition with no missing parts. Please feel the spirit of the samurai who lived at the end of the Edo period through this tanto.
