Iconography and Historical Context
This piece is an exceptional example of Herend’s genre figurines, which capture the essence of rural life and Central European folklore. The character represents a folk musician or "Betyár", a romantic and legendary figure in Hungarian folklore.
He is dressed in the traditional plains costume, most notably featuring the jacket draped over a single shoulder (known as the mente style), an ethnographic detail that denoted distinction among the peasants and horsemen of the era. The expressiveness of the face and the musician's posture convey the emotional depth of itinerant folk music, making this a sculpture with a powerful visual narrative.
Technical Excellence: The Mastery of Herend
The Herend Manufactory, historical purveyor to the European aristocracy and royalty (such as Queen Victoria), applies its highest standards to this figurine:
• Artistic Hand-Painting: Every detail has been meticulously applied by master painters. The precision in the eyes and facial features ensures that each figurine is a unique work of art.
• Gold Accents: The embroidery on the trousers and the instrument's highlights are finished with 24-karat gold, providing a noble and lasting luster.
• Porcelain Quality: Crafted from fine hard-paste porcelain, renowned for its pure whiteness and subtle translucency under light, protected by a high-resistance glossy glaze that keeps the colors as vibrant as the day it was fired.
Authentication Marks
The base features the blue Herend hallmark underglaze, the "Handpainted" inscription, and the impressed model number 5412, guaranteeing its origin and authenticity for collectors and investors alike.
Shipping and Packaging
The item will be shipped with high-security packaging, using specific cushioning materials to prevent any damage during transit. A Track & Trace number will be provided, and the shipment will be fully insured.
