Asahi's widest retrofocus lens of the Spotmatic era, announced in 1967 and replaced by the Super-Multi-Coated version in 1971, so the single-coated Super-Takumar had a run of just four years. Nine elements in eight groups covering 84 degrees, automatic diaphragm with auto/manual switch, 58 mm filter thread. It draws with the lower contrast and long tonal scale the pre-SMC Takumars are loved for.
This one looks to be unused and comes with its paperwork. No signs of use on the anodized finish of the barrel. Glass clear and free of haze, fungus and scratches; see the backlit photograph. The invoice from Photo-Plait, the big Paris dealer on the rue La Fayette, is dated 15 December 1970 and lists the lens by serial number 3283719, matching the number engraved on the front ring. The same first owner had bought the Icarex 35 S TM outfit offered in our other lot at the same shop seven weeks earlier. Also included as a gift to the Pentax collector that will own this lens after auction: an original Asahi Pentax camera or lensbag strap, still stapled shut in its original printed bag, never opened.
The invoice has been folded and stored flat; the paper is clean and the handwriting is fully legible.

Lens, Asahi Pentax metal front cap, Takumar rear cap, original leatherette zip case, original Photo-Plait invoice of 15 December 1970, and a new-old-stock Asahi Pentax strap in its sealed bag.
