Alessi Twergi toothpick holder, designed by esteemed architect and designer Andrea Branzi in 1991. The holder is expertly hand-crafted from pear-wood in combination with steel and features the beautiful silhouette of a ballet dancer mid-pose. When pushing the charming ballerina forward, a small drawer will open so that she is able to pick your toothpick. A superb addition to every dining table and one that is sure to kick-start a delightful dinner party conversation.

Always aware of ecological issues and natural forms, Andrea Branzi is one of the designers who is most aware of the potential of turned wood, a material that in his opinion is one of the best available for making "objects with which we can establish relationships, not just of use and functionality but also of a psychological, symbolic, and poetic nature.”

After acquiring one of the oldest woodcrafting companies of the Strona Valley (Battista Piazza 1865) in 1988, Alessi started a new brand called ''Twergi'' in 1989. Twergi means dwarf in the local dialect of Piemonte. It refers to a local dwarf that lives in the woods. For the first time Alessi was making products shaped out of wood. The decision to use materials other than steel turned out to be crucial for the growth of the company. Alessi Twergi therefore symbolizes not only design tradition and quality, but also a fine piece of entrepreneurship and vision.

The toothpick holder is in a new condition and never been used. Delivered with original packaging, manuals and 125 toothpicks.

Andrea Branzi:
Born in Florence in 1938, architect and designer. At an early age he studied as an architect at the Florence School of Architecture. Later on he was one of the founders of Italy’s first postgraduate design school, the Domus Academy. Besides, Branzi is one of the members of the EEC Commission for the promotion of the European design. He produced products for the most famous brands like Cassina, Vitra and Zanotta. He was two times awarded with the prestigious Italian industrial design award Compasso d'Oro.
