After studying in Kassel, he became a member of the international Nouvelle Tendance movement in 1965. His work is characterized by a rigorous systematic approach, rooted in mathematical and geometric principles. Early in his career, he developed the first systematic white relief, followed by the distinctive series Progression gegen Unendlich (Progression towards Infinity). Böhm utilized industrially prefabricated materials to create spatially concentrated objects and didactic structures of strict, often poetic aesthetic. He taught as a professor for design theory in Dortmund until 2003 and was awarded the Camille Graeser Prize in 1990.
