Zoogdier - Fossiel onderkaakbot - Adcrocuta eximia

Up for sale is a RARE lower mandible/jaw bone of prehistoric gigantic Hyena Adcrocuta eximia (carnivorous mammal) from early Pleistocene of Linxia basin, Gansu, China! This specimen comes from the famous Linxia Basin in Gansu, China—one of Asia’s most important late Miocene fossil localities. It represents Adcrocuta eximia, a large and powerful hyena species known for its robust jaws and bone-crushing dentition. Adcrocuta is one of the earliest true hyenines to show the specialized skull and teeth seen in modern spotted hyenas, making it a key species in the evolutionary history of the group. During the late Miocene (around 10–6 million years ago), the Linxia Basin supported a rich and diverse mammal community. The landscape was a mixture of open woodland and expanding grassland, home to three-toed horses, early bovids, antelopes, giraffids, and rhinoceroses, along with chalicotheres and suids. Small mammals such as rodents and pika-like lagomorphs added to the ecological diversity. These herbivores formed the prey base and scavenging opportunities for the region’s predators. The carnivore guild of the Linxia Basin included saber-toothed cats (machairodontines), bear-dogs (amphicyonids), mustelids, and several other hyenids, creating a competitive environment in which Adcrocuta eximia emerged as one of the dominant scavenger-predators of its time. Its strong jaws and crushing premolars allowed it to exploit carcasses more efficiently than many of its competitors. Fossils of Adcrocuta eximia from the Linxia Basin are highly valued for their scientific importance and their connection to one of the most dynamic ecosystems of the late Miocene. —————————— The size measurements of the mandible bone is around 23 x 13 x 6cm/9.05 x 5.12 x 2.36 inches with repairs and slight restorations ~1%. For shipping, the Chunghwa post (the official post of Taiwan) will be used to carry the item worldwide. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions in mind
