Boulle klok - Messing, Hout - 1950-1960

Large clock inlaid with Boulle HISTORY Boulle Charles André (1642-1732), French ebenist and furniture designer. Court artist of Louis XIV. He decorated royal residences by producing luxurious and expensive furniture. He made inlays in the chambers of Versailles (e.g. 1685 in the dauphin's study). He also supplied furniture to foreign courts. He improved the marquetry technique (called marquetry in France) and introduced copper, tin, silver, tortoiseshell, various species of imported wood (e.g. ebony) and others. He developed a furniture pattern. He created his own style in baroque furniture (called the Boulle style), popular in the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe. Boulle furniture has simple shapes, is massive and richly decorated with bronze inlays and appliqués, and typical forms include cabinets, chests of drawers, two-door wardrobes, clock cabinets and desks. Boulle's workshop was taken over by his sons, continuing their father's style.
