In Memory of the Soil, I return to a theme I first explored in my painting "The History of One City"(2017) where the memory of a place was revealed through the layered structure of the earth.
Here, it is no longer about human memory, but about the memory of matter itself — how time settles in the soil, how each stratum preserves traces of processes, events, and interventions. The red line running through the composition becomes a metaphor for human intrusion — subtle yet deeply penetrating, altering the natural order. The work reflects on the relationship between humankind and the Earth, a dialogue between natural history and the history of civilization.
Bio.
Konstantin Danilov (b. 1979, Moscow) is a painter and muralist based in Athens, Greece. A pioneer of Russia’s 1990s graffiti scene, his practice evolved toward Color Field painting, blending bold spatial compositions with psychological and emotional depth.
He has exhibited at major institutions such as the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, RuArts Foundation, and Burning Man x Sotheby’s (New York). His works are part of notable collections, including the STRAAT Museum (Amsterdam), Montresso Foundation, RuArts Foundation, and Sofia Trotsenko Collection.
Danilov has held solo shows at Triumph Gallery, Fineart Gallery, and Reloft Art in Moscow, and has participated in international fairs such as Urban Art Fair (Paris) and Affordable Art Fair (Amsterdam). His street art projects span over 20 countries, from Hong Kong to Paris and New York.
His work explores themes of emotional perception, ecological fragility, and transformation of personality and the interaction between one’s inner world and the external environment, including in the context of emigration. Using techniques such as painting around the edges of the canvas to reflect the hidden emotional layers that frame our conscious experience.
