Patriz Huber attr. - Skåp - Ek - Jugendstilbuffé

An exceptional Jugendstil buffet attributed to Patriz Huber, Darmstadt, circa 1900 – professionally restored This imposing and finely executed buffet with superstructure constitutes a distinguished example of early twentieth-century German Jugendstil, attributed to Patriz Huber (Stuttgart 1878 – Berlin-Charlottenburg 1902), an artist associated with the influential Darmstadt artistic circle. Dating to circa 1900 and crafted in solid oak, the piece reflects the defining principles of the movement: structural clarity, refined craftsmanship, and a controlled yet expressive use of stylised natural ornamentation. The overall composition is conceived as a multi-part, fully demountable architectural ensemble, characterised by a subtly tapered upper structure set upon a recessed base. The vertical panels of the superstructure are enriched with finely carved reliefs depicting flowing vegetal motifs, executed with precision and restraint. These carvings demonstrate a sophisticated interpretation of nature, typical of the Jugendstil language, where organic forms are stylised into rhythmic, almost abstract compositions. At the centre, a pair of doors is fitted with distinctive faceted glass panels, composed of square bevelled elements that create a striking interplay of light and depth. This feature enhances both the visual complexity and the functional elegance of the piece. Of particular importance are the original bespoke bronze fittings, including handles, escutcheons, and lock mechanisms, all individually designed and executed. The presence of the original locks further reinforces the authenticity and integrity of the cabinet, while contributing to its strong decorative identity. The lower section, slightly set back from the upper structure, continues the decorative programme with carved panels consistent in style and quality. The angled outer sides incorporate functional doors, seamlessly integrated into the overall architectural design. The buffet is presented in excellent condition following a professional conservation restoration, carried out in Italy with careful respect for the original materials and patina. The intervention has enhanced the readability of the carved surfaces and restored the structural stability, while preserving the historical character of the piece. For clarity and transparency regarding the photographic documentation: The imagines show the cabinet photographed in the restorer workshop in Acuto (03010, Italy), where the piece must be collected by the buyer Overall dimensions: 195 × 207 × 80 cm. This buffet stands as a rare and highly decorative example of Jugendstil furniture, combining sculptural presence with refined artisanal detailing. Its attribution to Patriz Huber and its connection to the Darmstadt context significantly enhance its historical and collectible value. An outstanding statement piece, suitable for both discerning collectors and sophisticated interiors. The cabinet can be dismantled for ease of transport.
