2015 Maison Leroy - Bourgogne - 1 Flasche (0,75 l)

Founded in 1868 in the small town of Auxey-Duresses, Maison Leroy owes its success to Henry Leroy, who joined the family business in 1919. In 1942, he purchased 50% of the Romanée-Conti vineyard (a joint management arrangement that lasted until 1992), which the family still co-owns with the de Villaine family. Since 1955, his daughter Marcelle – known to everyone as Lalou – has been at the helm. She recounts that her father poured a drop of Musigny on her lips when she was born. Between 1985 and 1989, with a view to producing the finest wines, she purchased the Noëllat and Philippe Rémy vineyards with the help of her Japanese importer to found Domaine Leroy. Today, Lalou-Bize Leroy is at the helm of an extraordinary wine estate covering 22.4 hectares across 24 appellations. For her, winegrowing is a matter of no compromise: the vines are cultivated biodynamically and yields are extremely low. While the wines from the wine merchant are highly prized, the estate's wines are the subject of a veritable cult following, as they embody, along with DRC, the very best that Burgundy has to offer. As the estate's reputation has spread far beyond the borders of France, it is very difficult to get hold of any of its prestigious bottles. The red Burgundy from the Leroy estate comes from a 74-acre plot. It is almost impossible to imagine a simple red Burgundy blind tasting given such complexity. The nose develops delicious aromas of red fruit and violet. The palate is remarkable for its precision and finesse.
