This lot consists of a set of two ceramic vases created by different Japanese ceramic artists. Each piece is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako), and one of the vases includes the artist’s biography document. The vase with the biography document was created by the Japanese ceramic artist Akikazu Taniguchi, whose recorded achievements include: • Participation in the National Export Crafts Exhibition • Special Prize awarded by the U.S. Consul General • Permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (USA) • Permanent collection of a former Soviet museum Both vases feature natural glaze variations produced during the firing process, displaying subtle tonal transitions from earthy brown to deep green across their surfaces. One vase has a rounded and stable form, while the other presents a tall cylindrical shape that emphasizes the dynamic flow of the glaze and kiln effects. The crackle-like patterns visible on the surface are decorative kannyu (intentional glaze crackle) created during the production process, and are not defects or structural damage. Both pieces are glazed internally, making them suitable for practical use as ikebana flower vases as well as decorative objects. Each vase bears the artist’s seal on the base. ⸻ Approximate Dimensions Vase 1 (Akikazu Taniguchi) Height: approx. 26.5 cm Mouth diameter: approx. 2.5 cm Base diameter: approx. 5 cm Vase 2 Height: approx. 22 cm Mouth diameter: approx. 7 cm Base diameter: approx. 8 cm Please allow for minor measurement discrepancies. ⸻ Condition Minor glaze variations, firing marks, and small surface irregularities may be present due to the handmade production process and age; these are characteristic of studio pottery. No noticeable cracks or structural damage were observed. Please refer to the photographs for detailed condition.
