Spazierstock - .925 Silber - Edwardianische Epoche 1900–1910
This elegant English gentleman’s walking stick dates from the Edwardian period and stands approximately 94 cm high. It is fitted with a finely repoussé-worked sterling silver knop, richly ornamented with scrolling foliate decoration of a type closely associated with Birmingham silver at the turn of the 20th century. The silver is clearly hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling standard, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and a date letter, together with the maker’s mark “MP”.
The knop retains a well-developed, attractive patina, with light surface wear and small marks consistent with age and long use. A period engraved monogram is present to the top of the knop, adding individual character typical of gentleman’s accessories of the era. The silver mount is firmly seated on the shaft and shows no looseness.
The shaft is of dark, dense hardwood, likely ebonised or malacca, finished smoothly and in good condition, with only minor signs of handling. The walking stick retains its original brass ferrule to the tip, showing honest wear but remaining sound and serviceable.
Overall, this is a refined and authentic Edwardian silver-mounted walking stick, well proportioned and of good quality, representative of the tasteful personal accessories carried by gentlemen in the early years of the 20th century.
