Description Rare set of two original wall-mounted coat racks designed by Piet Zwart for Bruynzeel, an iconic example of Dutch modernist industrial design. Piet Zwart (1885–1977) was a Dutch architect, designer and typographer, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modernism in the Netherlands. Besides his internationally influential graphic work, he collaborated with manufacturers such as Bruynzeel to design functional objects for modern interiors. These coat racks reflect the principles of early modernist design: functional clarity, simple construction and a strong horizontal composition. The restrained aesthetic relates to the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid and the rational design approach of Dutch modernism. The lot consists of: • One early example, dating to the pre-war period • One slightly later example, produced by Bruynzeel in the mid-20th century Together they illustrate the continued production and popularity of Zwart’s functional design.
