Darmagi is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine first produced in 1982, when Angelo Gaja decided to plant international varieties in the Langhe. The name “Darmagi” comes from a Piedmontese expression reportedly said by Angelo’s father meaning “what a pity,” referring to the replacement of Nebbiolo vines with Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it is considered one of Italy’s most iconic Bordeaux-style wines, combining structure, depth and elegance with the distinctive character of the Langhe terroir. The 2019 vintage shows excellent balance and aging potential. Drink or Hold: Can be enjoyed now with decanting, but will benefit from further aging in the cellar.
